Virtual Welcome Conversations

Dear Parents:

In order to further enhance communication between parents and teachers and as one part of this year’s reporting requirements, staff at Glenwood School would like to invite you to a Virtual Welcome Conversation for grades 1-7.  These will be held Thursday, September 24th. There will be an early dismissal at 2:00 p.m. for Divisions One and Two and 2:15pm for Divisions Three, Four & Five on that day to accommodate the Conferences.

The purpose of the conversation is to give teachers the opportunity to share information with the parents such as classroom procedures and the various learning opportunities that will be happening throughout the school year.  The time we all take to share this information has an enormous impact on the students’ attitudes to learning and to success in the classroom.

The format for this year will be different than in previous years as our meeting will be done virtually.  Each classroom teacher will have two Zoom meetings, one at 3pm and one at 5pm. Parents are invited to choose one of the meeting times that works best for them.  You do not need to attend both meetings as the teachers will be sharing the same information at each.  Following the Zoom meeting if you wish to speak to your child’s teacher to discuss specific information pertaining to your child please email the teacher directly to set-up an appointment to do so.

THE FORMAT IS AS FOLLOWS:
1. Welcome Conversation notice home to parents – Wednesday, Sept. 17th

All class specific Zoom meeting information will be provided on this letter home so that parents can access the meeting.

2. Welcome Conversation date:  Thursday, Sept. 24th

STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED AT:

2:00pm (Division 1 & 2) 2:15pm (Division 3, 4 & 5)

 TO ACCOMMODATE WELCOME CONVERSATIONS.

BEFORE THE CONVERSATION:

Discuss the upcoming welcome conversation with your child to see if there is anything he or she would like you to learn about from their teacher.

DURING THE CONVERSATION:

It is hoped that the conversation will provide the opportunity to discuss some of the following:

  • goals and expectations for this year
  • changes that are in place
  • forms of communication
  • responsibilities at home and at school

You should have received an email from the school with the exact Zoom meeting information specific to your child’s classroom teacher.  If you did not receive this email please notify the school as soon as possible.
